Emily Schuman is a documentary producer and filmmaker.

She is the Producer of Northern Residents, a feature documentary that follows orca researchers on Hanson Island, British Columbia. She is also producing Finding Fanny, a creative portrait of Fanny Palmer—an overlooked 19th-century artist and one of the first women to make a living as a lithographer in America.

Emily is currently co-directing two short documentaries: The Baker’s Hotline, a playful look at a real emergency hotline for home bakers, and SONIA, which chronicles the extraordinary life of feminist pioneer Sonia Pressman Fuentes. Her directorial debut, When I'm Her—a co-production with ITVS—follows a dancer who finds freedom through his glamorous alter ego, Madame Olga.

Emily co-produced Judy Blume Forever, which premiered at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival and is now streaming on Amazon Prime. Her other credits include The Stroll (Sundance 2023), Mission Possible (National Geographic 2021), The Disrupted (DOK.fest Munich 2020), True Believer (The Atlantic), and The Witmans (Discovery).

She began her career as a camera assistant as a member of IATSE Local 600. Emily is based in Brooklyn with her husband, son, and 11-year-old goldendoodle.
